Architecture

Desinging houses that will become "Homes"

Overview:

This course focuses on teaching the design techniques and standards involved in the development of a residential structure. The students learn to think creatively to solve design challenges, while keeping the needs of the prospective home owners in mind. Students learn how to identify and evaluate the needs of a client, develop a suitable architectural design that will accomodate the clients needs, and develop a sales proposal in order to pitch their design.

Students develop sketching, hand drafting, and computer aidded drafting skills. They also hone their communication, teamwork, presentation, and persuasive writing skills in this class.

We currently use Google SketchUp as our primary computer drafting program. We are also beginning to transition into using a higher end prgram from Autodesk called Revit for additional variety in the students educational experience.
