Teacher Student Assistance

A support team for students on the edge

Teacher Student Assistance Team

I've only recently joined the TSA, however the work that the team undertakes has proven oth challenging and rewarding.

The team is composed of the school psychologist, 4-5 teachers from a variety of content ares, and the principle. The team meets regularly with students that have been reffered out of a variety of concerns. These concerns may be academic, social, or extra curriculuar issues affecting the student. The team typically only takes students that do not fall under 504 or Special Education coverage, as those students will have access to a variety of additional support systems.

The primary goal of the team is to work with the student to address the concerns that brought them to us. The student has the opportunity to make connections with a large support network of friendly faces that they can turn to in times of need. Additionally, each student has a memeber of the team assigned as their case manager. This team member meets with the student weekly to discuss action items, strategies, struggles, success, or just to chat and check in. Students that successfully address the concerns that brought them to the TSA program are happily "graduated" and released from further meetings and check ins. Of course, the opportunity to seek out support from the team alway remains open to all students.

The TSA program has been a great success in our school and has recieved the full support of the administration. The TSA currently serves approximately 40 students, with more enrollments possible at any point in the school year.
